For the last four years schools have been allocated a sum of money to improve the quality of sport in primary schools. The funding is known as the primary physical education and sport premium. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. For the year 2017-18 we have been allocated £20,310.
Here at St Luke’s we have used the money to improve the amount of high quality PE provision through the use of specialist teachers, class teacher CPD, as well as improving and updating equipment. In addition, this improvement and sustainability is enabled, through raising the profile of PE as part of a healthy lifestyle. Here, increased links to local sports providers, widening the range of sports provided and the number of festivals and tournaments entered will enable this to be achieved.
